| Track | Difficulty and Life Settings | Permits Fast Fire | Details |
|---|---|---|---|
| Micro31 | Any | Yes | Best score at or before the conclusion of Stage 31. Games going beyond Stage 31 may submit a Micro31 score by taking the score after the Stage 31 BONUS is awarded (before Stage 32 begins) |
| Killscreen | Any | Yes | Best score at or before the conclusion of Stage 255. Games going beyond Stage 255 may submit a ‘Killscreen’ score by taking the score after the Stage 255 BONUS is awarded (before Stage 0 begins) |
| Tournament | Rank D 5 lives, No Extras | No | Can also be played on any life settings, as long as only the first 5 lives are counted as though these settings were used (e.g. if your 5th ship is captured in attempt to double, scoring ends). |
| Marathon | Rank D 3 lives Extras at 20,000/70,000/70,000 | No | Can be submitted with harsher life/extra settings, but not an easier one such as 20,000/60,000/60,000, unless the game is scored after 18 lives (e.g. if your 18th ship is captured in attempt to double, scoring ends) and no Extra Lives are used that would not have been gained on the correct settings (e.g. you have one ship left at 59,000. You gain an extra at 60,000 but die at 65,000. Scoring ends, as your remaining ship wouldn’t have been rewarded until 70,000 on correct settings). |
| Million Point Race | Any | No | Starts on frame START is hit, ends on frame score rolls over. Can be taken from a game that goes beyond 1 million. |
| Single Ship | Rank D 3 lives Extras at 20,000/70,000/70,000 | No | Same as Marathon, but ships may not be doubled. Ships may be captured, and rescued in such a way that they do not double (by dying before the rescue is complete). Linking of ships is an instant end to the run. |
No-Fire Glitch
The glitch used to limit or stop enemy fire (the “No Fire” glitch) is banned from all tracks except speedruns (Million Point Race).
“Parking”
The player may “park” their ship on Stage 0 only, for tracks where it is relevant. This trick potentially keeps the player safe indefinitely. allowing them to take a break even away from controls with no worry of death. However, the community has always limited this ability. Our policy is as such: Every Stage 0 must be cleared in 15 minutes (time starts when Stage 0 text appears, ends when Stage 1 text appears), with a 1 minute grace period. Any violation of this will be noted and reflected in the Submission Rating.
If you plan to submit other boards, check their policies. For instance, Galaga Forum rules state that 5 minutes for every 2 hours of play is allotted at Stage 0 parking.
Runs can, and often do, qualify for multiple tracks. For instance, almost every game is/has a Micro31 score. You can play on Marathon settings and submit that single run for Marathon, the score at the end of your 5th life as Tournament, the time at 1 million points can be submitted as Million Point Race, the score after Stage 31 can be submitted as your Micro31, the score after Stage 255 can be submitted as your Killscreen.
Micro31 and Killscreen scores have a maximum stage, but not a minimum stage. Technically, every valid run has a Micro31 and Killscreen score that could be submitted.
